Preservation Conference

Plan now to attend Preserving Historic Places: Indiana's Statewide Preservation Conference, coming to New Harmony Wednesday, April 7 to Friday, April 9. Formerly called the Cornelius O’Brien Conference for Historic Preservation, the name change reflects an expanded agenda of topics related to preservation and community development, and the addition of Historic Landmarks Foundation as a full partner in the trio of sponsors.

Featured speakers include Paul Goldberger, architecture critic for the New York Times, and Bernard Karpf, representing Richard Meier and Partners Architects of Los Angeles—the firm responsible for New Harmony’s famous Atheneum (above).

The conference also includes walking tours highlighting New Harmony’s Rappite and Owenite architecture and its Mesker cast-iron facades, as well as excursions to nearby Angel Mounds State Historic Site and the World War II-era Landing Ship Tanks 325 in Evansville.

Preserving Historic Places is presented by Historic Landmarks Foundation, the Indiana Division of Historic Preservation and Archaeology (DHPA), and Indiana University.
