News from the region Logansport offers incentives for preservation
A new program in Logansport hopes to stimulate restoration projects by offering owners of locally designated historic properties tax abatement incentives. |
City officials in Logansport recently added new equipment to their preservation tool kits. The newly established Restore Zone offers owners of historic properties abatement on property taxes for rehabilitation projects that comply with preservation guidelines. The incentive abates one hundred percent of any increased assessment for a period of five years, phasing in at 20 percent each year.
The Logansport Historic Preservation Commission partnered with the city’s planning department to create the program. Projects are required to be locally designated sites or located within locally designated historic districts. All improvements will be subject to review by the preservation commission, which has designated more than 20 local sites.
Logansport offers other incentives for revitalization of vacant and under-used historic properties. For more information, contact Arin Shaver, Assistant Planning Director for the City of Logansport, 574-753-4023, arin.shiver@co.cass.in.us.
Historic Landmarks Foundation’s Northern Regional Office provides staff assistance to the Logansport preservation commission through the Community Assistance Program (CAP). For details on the CAP program, contact Historic Landmarks’ regional office nearest you.
