A new lecture series sponsored by Historic Landmarks Foundation and Columbian Properties will draw attention to the 1885 William G. Scott House in Richmond.
The house at 204 North Tenth Street, formerly used as the Knights of Columbus Hall, is now available as a community center, with rental facilities for parties, receptions, and special events. Historic Landmarks and Columbian Properties partnered to preserve the historic house and establish a plan for its ongoing restoration. Historic Landmarks provided grant and loan funds to develop a feasibility study and make maintenance repairs.
Columbian Properties, which has owned the house since 1921, is expanding its mission to promote education and development of historic preservation, using the William G. Scott House as its headquarters and community facility. The lecture series is the first in a schedule of programs designed to spotlight the Scott House and its history.
On March 14, Shaun Dingwerth, Director of the Richmond Art Museum, will speak on the art collection of the William G. Scott family, which was donated to the museum when the house was sold to Columbian Properties. Through a grant from the Wayne County Foundation, the artwork has been reproduced and reinstalled in the house.
On April 11, Chef Ghyslain Maurais, owner and creator of Ghyslain Chocolatier and Bistro, will discuss the history of chocolate and create a chocolate sculpture. The event also includes a gourmet dinner prepared by Chef Maurais.
